Opened on July 19, 1998, the Kusano Shimpei Memorial Literature Centre is a lifetime learning facility aimed at providing a place in which information exchange can occur, the results of research can be publicised, and in which people can interact with one another through activities based around literature and the arts, and specifically poetry.
The centre was built to honour the numerous achievements of the poet Kusano Shimpei, who was a Recipient of the Order of Cultural Merit, and Honorary Citizen of Iwaki.
There are a variety of displays and events held at the centre throughout the year.
