Aquamarine Fukushima
UPDATE 2009/09/14
Cultural&Educational Facilities
Opened in 2000, Aquamarine Fukushima has since become a symbol of the Onahama area.
The aquarium provides a new look at life under the sea, with its main tank that reproduces the meeting of the warm Black Current from the south and the cold Kurile Current from the north that occurs just off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, and creates what is known as the Shiome Sea.
The main tank has a capacity of 2050 tonnes of water and is set around a triangular tunnel, the first of its
kind.
The aquarium also allows its visitors to understand various other mysteries of the sea, and learn through both observation and hands on experience about a variety of local and foreign sea creatures.
